Coronation Street's Nick Tilsley is close to death in this tense new trailer showing him trapped in quicksand.

A shock accident for Nick will be one of the major storylines taking centre stage when Corrie airs a week of explosive 9pm episodes starting next Monday (May 29).

Nick is trying his best to put the past behind him when he agrees to go on a peace-making trip to the beach with his fiancée Leanne Battersby, her two sons and the other two men in her life – Peter Barlow and Steve McDonald.

Of course, Nick can never keep a lid on his true feelings for very long and tensions flare up once again as a result of his jealous behaviour.

As Corrie's new promo shows, Leanne is rapidly losing patience with Nick's attitude, but when he stumbles onto quicksand and begins to get sucked under just when the tide is coming in, could she be about to lose him forever?

Or could an unlikely person be Nick's saviour when Peter stays by his side and tries to get him to keep fighting until the emergency services arrive?

Corrie filmed Nick's quicksand scenes in early April, but the trailer is our first confirmation of when they'll actually air.

With Ben Price leaving his role as Nick imminently, could this be a grisly exit for him? Or will he live to fight (with Peter and Steve, probably) another day?

Coronation Street airs at 9pm all next week on ITV.
