Shocking video shows rats swarming Paisley street bin as rubbish 'dumped'

A shocking video shows several rats crawling on and around an on-street bin in Paisley.

The footage captured by a concerned local on Sunday evening (June 30) shows a group of rats squeezing through gaps in a fence to climb on and around a Renfrewshire Council bin on Espedair Street in Paisley.

The woman behind the camera believes the rats were attracted to rubbish that had been "dumped behind the bin".

It comes after there was a surge in call-outs to Renfrewshire homes to deal with rodent infestations.

In April of this year Glasgow's rat problem was declared "ten times worse", with parts of the city now 'no-go areas' for cleansing workers.

Renfrewshire Council has now confirmed that a pest control team will attend Espedair Street and carry out investigations to control any vermin in the area.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: "Our pest control team will visit Espedair Street and carry out the actions required to deal with any vermin found.

“If you see vermin in your community, contact our pest control service on 0300 300 0380 and we will arrange a visit."
