Siblings Caught in Damaging Storm in Southern Missouri

Two siblings were caught in a violent storm on their fourth-story balcony in Joplin, Missouri, on Monday, May 6, video shows.

Footage filmed and posted to TikTok by Lily Anne Sorrell shows Sorrell and her sister standing outside on their balcony, where strong winds and debris can be seen whipping past. Sorrell said that they were watching the lightning in the distance when all of a sudden the storm hit them with no tornado sirens or warning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado watch on Monday as severe thunderstorms moved through the area. According to a local news report, the storm uprooted trees, damaged homes in the area, knocked a semi-truck off the road, and caused a power outage.

The NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook to remain in effect in the area throughout the week, with severe thunderstorms expected to bring large hail, damaging winds, and possibly tornadoes on Wednesday. Credit: Lily Anne Sorrell via Storyful
