Simon Gregson's kids are “mortified” about his foray into drag.

The 'Coronation Street' star, 48, is set to appear in the upcoming drag special 'Queens for the Night' on ITV and admitted his three sons Alfie, 15, Harry, 13, and Henry, six - who he has with wife Emma Gleave - are not impressed by his female counterpart Bidet Bardot.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “They're mortified! They're young boys in a very big school and they’re probably going to get grief. We'll watch it as a family and have fun, but then they'll feign disgust as soon as they get to the school gates."

The former 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here' contestant - who has played taxi driver Steve McDonald on the ITV soap opera for over 30 years - went on to joke that he is a “really ugly woman” and thinks he looks like an evil creation straight from the mind of George Lucas.

He said: “I'm a really ugly woman! I look like a Star Wars baddie. And the rigmarole I had to go through to get there was a huge process and not comfortable.”

Before he embraced his feminine side, Simon quipped that drag would probably suit his “larger than life” personality.

He said: I think I'll be a larger-than-life drag queen, very loud. I think that fits in with me quite well.”

Simon - who will join fellow contestants such as ‘Love Island’ star Chris Hughes, ex ‘EastEnders’ star Adam Woodyatt and Mr Motivator - called it “very, very nerve-wracking” to be judged by Spice Girl Melanie C, Rob Beckett, Courtney Act and ex 'Everyone's Talking About Jamie' star Layton Williams on the Lorraine Kelly-fronted show.

He said: “It's very, very nerve-wracking. First time on stage, the first time I'm going to be doing what I'm going to be doing. The nerves are riding high. It's a new territory for me, so we will see how I get on.”

The one-off special - which will include expert teachers in the shape of drag performers Blu Hydrangea, Kitty Scott-Claus, La Voix, Myra DuBois, Asttina Mandella, and Margo Marshall - will take audiences on the entire journey from trying on stilettos to their cabaret performance.

'Queens For the Night' will air on ITV on Saturday 5 November.
