The Simpsons turned down Donald Trump's request for a cameo

It’s no big secret that Donald Trump is the most unpopular president that the United States has had.

Though he knows it too, it was surely a kick in the teeth when one of the country’s most famous TV shows refused to accept his offer to star in an episode.

A producer for the beloved animated series – which is famous for its celebrity cameos – revealed he turned down a request from the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces to voice his own character in the cartoon. That can’t have been an easy thing to do.

Executive producer Al Jean was asked at last weekend’s Comic-Con panel if he had ever refused a celebrity request to appear in the series, and he responded: ‘Let’s just say he’s the president of the United States.’

But it hasn’t stopped the team from immortalising Donald Trump throughout the years.

They even predicted his presidency in the episode ‘Bart To The Future’ and last year Simpsons creator Matt Groening told The Guardian they used Trump because he was ‘the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of.’

It sucks to be right.
