Sinkhole on Somerset road prompts temporary traffic lights and imminent road closure

A SINKHOLE which has opened on a road in Somerset needs to be 'guarded' to prevent it expanding further.

The hole is located on the side of the B3134 Burrington Road, in Burrington, between Cheddar and Blagdon.

Temporary lights have now been put in place by Somerset Council, and the road will be closed for between three and five days from Monday, April 29, between Yoxter crossroads and the Nordrach Lane junction.

The road closure will remain in effect for 24 hours per day until works to 'guard' the hole are complete.

Travel Somerset says there will be a signed diversion route put in place for commuters who use the road.

A Somerset Council spokesperson added: "We do our utmost to minimise disruption where possible."

The Miner's Arms junction where the B3134 meets the B3135 in Priddy, near Wells, will begin undergoing a crucial safety upgrade on Monday, April 29, likely causing further congestion in the surrounding area.
