A driver who was allegedly seen texting while driving has had their licence reverted back to provisional status.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Lancashire Road Police said that a driver of a black Volkswagen Golf was "engrossed with texting on their phone", failing to see the fully liveried commercial vehicle enforcement van alongside them.

The driver was reported yesterday (Wednesday, May 8) and due to only holding a full licence for 10 months, will revert back to provisional status, police said.

The car was said to still be possessing red "L" learning plates on the back.

Sharing a picture of the car, a spokesperson for Lancashire Road Police said: "Driver of this VW was that engrossed with texting on their phone they failed to see the fully liveried Commercial Vehicle Enforcement van alongside them.

"Driver reported and due to only holding a full licence for 10 months will revert back to provisional status."
