The desperate search for missing Brit Jay Slater is continuing into its second week in Tenerife. Rescue teams have been scouring a mountain area in the north west of the Spanish island.

The 19-year-old was last heard from on Monday, June 17. He was on holiday with friends when he vanished after visiting the NRG music festival in Playa de las Americas.

The apprentice bricklayer then reportedly travelled more than 30km with two men he had met before staying at a rental property in the rural village of Masca. It is believed his phone died in the middle of a vast ravine not long after he made a call to a friend to say he had missed a bus and was attempting the 11-hour trek back to his accommodation on foot.

Major efforts now continue across the 'treacherous' Rural de Teno Park, with police enquiries into Jay's whereabouts ongoing. But there are six key questions which are confusing loved ones and leading investigators about the case, Manchester Evening News reports.

How did nobody see Jay on the morning he vanished?

Jay is said to have walked off alone, uphill into the mountains of the Rural de Teno Park on Monday, June 17. It is believed he had left a remote Airbnb he had stayed at with two men he met at the NRG festival.

He stayed in the village of Masca - about 30km away from Los Cristianos, the resort where he had been staying with friends in the south of the island. The Airbnb owner said Jay 'walked off alone' and uphill, in the wrong direction.

She had told him a bus out of the village would be two hours. Jay's dad Warren and mum Debbie have questioned how nobody saw him when he vanished.

Masca is a tourist hotspot, boasting panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the North Atlantic Ocean. It is filled with travellers, who drive there or join one of the many daily travel excursions.

The area where his phone is said to have 'pinged' at about 8.50am on the morning he vanished is next to an extremely popular viewpoint of the mountains. Car parking spaces are regularly full by as early as 10am each day.

here are also a handful of cafes and bars just a short walk away. Jay's dad said: "There are people up there... you don't go along that road for more than 20 minutes without somebody stopping you or passing you."

Why did he stay in the rural village of Masca?

Another key question is why Jay chose to stay in the village of Masca the night before he vanished. The small village is home to about 90 people and is off the beaten track. There are very few accommodation options, with only three hotels nearby.

Bar staff in the resort of Playa de las Americas said tourists rarely stay there if they are partying in the south of the island. It is thought to be popular mainly with hikers.

They described the area as 'dangerous' to those who are inexperienced. The area is more than 30km from the resort he was staying in with friends in Los Cristianos.

The drive takes between an hour to 90 minutes, costs more than 100 euros in a taxi and can only be reached after going through challenging and steep roads which are close to a cliff edge.

Why didn't Jay wait for the bus on the morning he disappeared?

Police will also be asking why Jay chose to walk alone through the mountains instead of waiting for the bus on the morning he vanished. He reportedly decided not to wait two hours for a bus which would have taken him back into town.

Ophelia Hernande, the owner of the rental property where Jay stayed, said she saw the teenager at about 8am standing by a bus stop just outside of the village of Masca. She said he had asked her about buses back to Los Cristianos and she told him it would arrive at 10am.

It is claimed he then walked uphill further north of the island along the only road in the area and told his friend he would attempt the walk back to the apartment - an 11-hour journey on foot.

Who are the unknown men he stayed with and why did he leave his friends?

Another key question is who the two unknown men were that Jay stayed with and why he chose to go with them to Masca. The men are thought to be British and booked the Airbnb rental in the Rural de Teno Park.

Jay was with the men on the Sunday evening before the vanished at the Casa Abuela Tina. A woman named only as Araceli, who works in the business adjoining the rental property, said: "I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking on his own.

"I saw the two British men who stayed here. They came in for cafe con leche a couple of times. One was aged about 40. The other one was slightly younger.

"The police have spoken to them both. They arrived on Saturday and we’re due to stay until Monday, but they left on Tuesday."

Is a third party involved?

Jay's family have questioned whether a third party was involved in Jay's disappearance. Leading TV investigator Mark Williams-Thomas has since flown out to the Spanish island to 'get answers for Jay's family'.

He claimed he will be able to establish whether there was any third-party involvement and uncover the identity of the unknown men 'in three days'. Police are yet to confirm any third-party involvement.

Jay's mum Debbie and dad Warren believe he may have been taken or that somebody would have seen him on the day he vanished. Warren said: "You think, has somebody got him? Because no matter if you were drunk or whatever, you don't go off that road up there."

Debbie previously told the Daily Mail: "If he's got himself mixed up with any trouble, just let him go, just let him go." The Civil Guard has said it is keeping an open mind.

Was the other CCTV sighting really missing Jay?

CCTV footage of a man walking through a church square in the village of Santiago del Teide at about 6pm on Monday, June 17, has been shared by Jay's loved ones. They believe it could possibly be him.

They said the Civil Guard are looking into it. The village the footage was captured in is about 7km away from the Airbnb Jay is thought to have stayed at the night before he vanished.

It shows a man, who Jay's dad said was similar to his son's height and build, walking past one of the many cameras in the area. Police in Tenerife have not yet confirmed whether the lead is being looked to as a credible possibility.
