Snow tempts daredevil to ski through a busy city centre towed by a car

A daredevil ski instructor took advantage of the arrival of snow to ski through a busy city centre towed by a car.

Oli Headon, 21, decided to ski through the city centre after a light dusting of snow in Chelmsford, Essex last week and was filmed by friends being towed at 18mph through busy streets.

Unfortunately for Oli, the dusting of snow was so light that he ended up skiing on the tarmac rather than the white stuff.

“I couldn’t go skiing this winter so I thought I would make the most of the snow,” he said.

“I waited all day for it to snow but when I went out it stopped and I ended up just skiing on the concrete and absolutely grinding down my skis.

“There were sparks flying up everywhere and my skis are ruined – luckily I have a few pairs.”

The video of daredevil Oli’s exploits has already been viewed more than 14,000 times after bit was uploaded to Facebook.

It shows him being towed behind the car, passing a pub and a high street bank, before Oli’s friends can be heard saying they will need to stop soon before they pass Chelmsford police station.

Daredevil – Oli is the self-confessed ‘idiot’ of the family

He said: “I was most worried about getting in trouble but luckily we were quick enough. I think it’s illegal but everyone was cheering us on. There were loads of people waving and applauding.

“The guys didn’t want to drive past the police station so we just stopped quickly, I got in, and we drove off.

“My mum commented on the video saying she was not impressed at all. I’m sort of the idiot of the family and they all see the videos before I tell them, otherwise my mum would have a heart attack with all the stupid things I have done.”

Oli, who became a ski instructor in Japan at the age of 18, has since lived in New Zealand, Greece and Switzerland but decided to have this season off to spend with his family before he heads off to India to work as a bungee instructor in a few weeks’ time.

He added: “When I’m abroad I do all these things and then I try to do them when I’m home, but you can’t really do them in Chelmsford. I’m trying to bring the whole adventure to Chelmsford.”

Essex police have been contacted for comment.
