Sony is entering 21st Century Fox buyout

From Digital Spy

Fox's X-Men are hot property at the moment, and it looks like another huge movie studio has pulled out a pair of adamantium claws to set its sights on Charles Xavier's gifted mutants.

After recent talks between Fox and Disney about a potential buyout, it now looks like Sony wants a slice of the Foxverse too.

According to Variety, Sony has thrown its hat into the ring to rival Disney and claim the X-Men for it own, though talks are in "very preliminary stages."

Since 2000, Fox's X-Men movies have given us the good and the bad of comic book movies. Arguably starting the "supes in cinema" boom with the Bryan Singer's first instalment, fans have enjoyed - and sometimes sighed at -17 years of mutant movies.

Given the lukewarm reception of 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, it might be in Fox's best interest to shed some of the dead weight of the X-Men.

However, with movies like Deadpool 2 and New Mutants embracing the darker side of Marvel, it would be pretty foolish for Fox to cast off its biggest potential earners already.

Interestingly, the Fox/Disney talks have have collapsed, but the fact that Sony is now involved proves there's still some interest in selling.

Among the proposed buyout, it would surely mean that whoever grabs the comic book rights would also get the maligned Fantastic Four in the divorce settlement.

After several failed attempts and box office success, fans are desperately crying out for someone to get the FF right.

Similar to the Disney and Sony Spider-Man deal, perhaps the sides can strike a deal where they lend out some of their heroes in an amicable arrangement?

That being said, with Sony already tackling its own Spider-Man villainverse, does it already have too much on its plate without taking on whole superhero teams and the impossible task of recasting Hugh Jackman?
