It looks like we won't be hearing from Beyond Good and Evil 2 at E3 this year.

The sequel's director and original creator of the series, Michel Ancel, shared the news via a post on Instagram.

"Mhhh , not sure that E3 would be the best place to showcase Bg&e2," he said. "But we're working on the game so sometime this year , you should hear about it!"

Fans of the original Beyond Good and Evil, released in 2003, were electrified when Ubisoft officially confirmed the production of a sequel last October.

A second instalment has been on the cards for almost 10 years, but a teaser trailer for BGE2 released in 2008, and early gameplay footage seen a year later, were sniffs of a game that never materialised.

Ancel, the mind behind Rayman and the Raving Rabbids imminently teaming up with Mario, is currently splitting his time between BGE2 and his other project, an open world survival game called Wild.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 will miss out on the annual Los Angeles-based expo, but the Ubisoft showcase will be far from empty. The next Assassin's Creed game, and Far Cry 5 will undoubtedly make an appearance alongside smaller titles like Rayman Legends Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch and South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
