Spider-Man Director Confirms Supporting Characters
Who is Tony Revolori playing in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?
It looks as though we finally know…
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ director Jon Watts revealed exactly who Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, and Laura Harrier are playing. And it’s rather cool.

“According to the filmmaker, Zendaya plays Michelle, Revolori plays Flash [Thompson], Harrier plays Liz [Allan], and Batalon plays Ned [Leeds].”
But who exactly are they?
Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson
He’s one of the most recognisable ‘Spider-Man’ supporting characters, Flash Thompson is Peter Parker’s high school bully. And it looks as though that relationship won’t change in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
“I’m [Peter Parker’s] bully,” said Revolori. “And I don’t know how cool he is, but when we call cut, I’m just like, ‘Ah! You’re so cool’.”
Rather amusingly, while Flash torments Peter Parker, he comes to idolise Spider-Man… and has no idea that they’re one and the same. And judging from Revolori’s comments, it looks as though this will be the same in ‘Homecoming’.
Zendaya as Michelle
Although a surname still hasn’t been mentioned for certain, it’s thought that Zendaya will be playing ‘Spider-Man’ character Michelle Gonzalez… even though she doesn’t encounter him in the comic books until they’re both adults.
Michelle Gonzalez ends up becoming Peter Parker’s roommate. And while at one point they have a one night stand, she never quite manages to become Spider-Man’s love interest. Will this complicated relationship make it into the comic books? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
After all, she might not even be the same Michelle.
Laura Harrier as Liz Allan
Another potential comic book love interest for Peter Parker, Liz Allan is a former girlfriend of Flash Thompson… and since ‘Homecoming’ takes Spider-Man back to high school, this looks like a safe bet.
Although perhaps they’ll gloss over the love interest bit.
Stepsister of the ‘Spider-Man’ villain The Molten man (and eventual bride of Harry Osborn) she became a key supporting character in the comic books. But while we may get some nice Easter eggs which nod towards these connections, it’s unlikely that we’ll see the full extent of comic book character on the big screen.
Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds
Throughout the comic books, Ned Leeds works for the Daily Bugle… and becomes a bit of a love rival to Peter Parker, who has a crush on J. Jonah Jameson’s secretary, Betty Brant.
But will this rivalry appear in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?
I can’t help thinking it’s unlikely… at least when it comes to a shared love interest. But maybe their rivalry will likely rear its head in other ways. Some have already suggested that he and Parker could end up working on the school newspaper together.
But could we see hints of him eventually becoming the second Hobgoblin?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ heads to cinemas on 7 July 2017.
