Euphoria has unveiled the first official trailer for its long-awaited second season – and as you might expect, it features plenty of glitter eyeshadow and teen angst.

Following her heartbreak-fuelled relapse at the end of season one, and her intoxicated meeting with sponsor Ali (Colman Domingo) in last year's one-off special 'Trouble Don't Last Always', the teaser opens on Rue (Spider-Man: No Way Home's Zendaya) attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Later, she recalls her seismic first encounter with Hunter Schafer's Jules ("When I first met her, I was just immediately in love. As soon as I saw her, I was just immediately afraid to lose her"), before packing a bag and riding her bike out of town.

"So, Rue, the $64,000 question is... what's in the suitcase?" Ali asks before she leaves. She doesn't answer, but the clip goes on to suggest that it could be filled with prescription drugs she could be intending to shift.

Other notable moments in the clip include Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Kat (Barbie Ferreira) mocking Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) for her "country music star" get up, a tense look between dealer Fezco (Angus Cloud) and Rue's childhood best friend Lexi (Maude Apatow), Nate (Jacob Elordi) asking Cassie whether she's a "relationship kinda girl", and Rue and her mother getting into an explosive argument.

Opening up about season two back in July, Zendaya – who recently won an Emmy for her performance in the Sam Levinson-created drama – admitted to Teen Vogue that it's "not going to be a fun watch."

She added: "I think Rue really deserves all of that care when it comes to her character, because I think she represents a lot for so many people.

"I hope to make those people proud with our depictions of Rue [and] where all the characters go. I think this season's not going to be easy."

Euphoria returns to HBO on January 9, 2022.
