Spotify is repotedly planning to announce a new video streaming service, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal.

The music streaming company has been talking to companies that specialise in making content for Google's YouTube to discuss acquiring their material and co-creating original video series, says the WSJ, making a completely new direction for the brand.

Spotify is holding a media event on 20 May, sparking rumours that this could be the day that it reveals its video plans. The event takes place just weeks before Apple is due to unveil its new Beats-based music streaming service.

The new video features would also be going up against Jay-Z's Tidal music service, which offers music videos and also has plans to stream live concerts and exclusive content to subsribers.
