Springwatch’s Michaela Strachan Reckons GBBO Is A Celebration Of Obesity

The Great British Bake Off might be one of the most popular shows on TV at the moment, but it can’t count Michaela Strachan as one of its fans.

The Springwatch presenter, and badger-scratcher, admitted that she doesn’t watch the show because she believes all the sweet treats promote obesity.

She told the Express: “I can’t believe a show that uses so much sugar is so popular.

“You read all the time these articles damning sugar and talking about the obesity problems, and they are piling it into these massive cakes celebrating it. Personally, it’s not a show I switch on.”

Okaaaaaaay. She didn’t stop there either, adding: “There is a real problem with sugar both in the UK and in South Africa, where I live. There are a lot of overweight people in South Africa.

“Often, in poorer communities. They have five spoonfuls of sugar in their tea. I have to see people not respecting their bodies.”

But, she did reveal that she is human and isn’t totally immune to the pull of sweet treats herself.

She continued: “The odd sweet is fine, the odd biscuit is fine. But you can’t have these things all the time.”

Considering how great Michaela looks for 50, we admit she definitely has a point about too much of the sweet stuff.

But what even is life without Bake Off? We’ll still be tuning in, thanks.
