Squid Game's Oh Young-soo has been found guilty of sexual misconduct at a South Korean court.

The Golden Globe Award winner, who portrayed Oh Il-nam in the first season of the Netflix hit, has been convicted by a district judge in the city of Seongnam.

The New York Times reports that he received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and must attend 40 hours of sexual violence awareness classes.

Having denied the charges, Oh said that he plans to appeal the verdict.

The original charge was filed back in 2022 when an unidentified actress accused Oh of inappropriately touching her on multiple occasions in August and September 2017, including hugging her, kissing her cheek, and holding her hand. Oh also slept in her rental room and made potentially inappropriate sexual comments.

Judge Jeong Yeon-ju said that her experience was recorded in a diary before she told others, and attended sexual violence counselling in March 2018.

In 2021, the actress asked for an apology from Oh, which she received.

Oh claimed that the apology to the woman was not an admission of guilt. He denied kissing the actress, and claimed that he had held her hand as a way of helping her carry items.

His lawyers argued that her narrative had inconsistencies, but the court found the accusations credible when considering the "content of the victim's journal and the content of her counselling after the incident".

"Her testimonies could not have been given unless she actually experienced it," the court added.

Oh has also reportedly been dropped from a movie titled About Family, with his role being recast despite all of his scenes already being filmed.

Squid Game is set to return for a second season on Netflix later this year.
