The DC Universe is expanding rapidly with the announcement that DC is creating a digital subscription streaming service and now another new series has been added to its roster.

It's been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 that the DC Universe will be welcoming a live-action TV series version of Stargirl, the comic book which started the career of writer and ex-DC chief Geoff Johns.

Johns himself will write and executive produce the 13-episode series under his Mad Ghost Productions banner, according to The Wrap, with casting still to be announced.

Stargirl will join three previously announced live-action series on the DC streaming service, with Titans, Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing already slated to be in production.

The show, which will also be executive-produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, will focus on high schooler Courtney Whitmore, who inspires a group of unlikely heroes to save the world from villains of the past – with the friends becoming the Justice Society of America.

If the first trailer for Titans is anything to go by – complete with a sweary Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing – Stargirl might end up being a much darker version of the comics.

DC Universe will also allow subscribed fans to watch classic DC shows, including Lois and Clark, Batman: The Animated Series and the '70s series of Wonder Woman, as well as movies like The Dark Knight.

The service will also include access to thousands of DC comics, from 1938 right up to the present day, and a range of collectibles.

You can sign up to a beta version of the site now, which will go live in August, before the Universe is properly launched later this year.

And if you want to know when you can get your fix of all the yet-to-be-released DC movies, we've got the full schedule right here.
