Former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is in "advanced talks" to become the new Leicester City manager.

The Foxes have been on the lookout for a new head coach since Enzo Maresca left the King Power Stadium to take the reins at Premier League side Chelsea.

The hunt for the Italian's successor came down to a straight shootout between two former Swansea bosses in Cooper and Graham Potter.

Potter has been out of work since leaving Chelsea last season, while Cooper and former employers Nottingham Forest also parted ways last term.

It appears Cooper has won the race to become the new man in the east Midlands and attentions have already been drawn to transfer targets. Leicester will be playing top-flight football again next season and they have been linked with a move for £10million-rate defender Joe Rodon already, despite no manager being in situ yet.

The Wales centre-back spent the last campaign on loan at Leeds United from Tottenham. Despite penning a contract extension in north London this summer, Rodon is expected to leave the club for good, with Leeds, Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich Town all vying for his signature.

Cooper has already worked with Rodon during their time together at Swansea, with the Welshman a big fan of the defender from the moment he walked in the door at the Swansea.com Stadium.

He said early on in his tenure that Rodon had massive potential and a big future in the game. He said: "I think Joe is a big player for us.

“He has had a very good start to the season, and the exciting thing with Joe is he is only going to get better.

“I really believe in his potential. He is a right-footed centre-back playing on the left, which just shows his quality of how he can play with the ball.

“He is taking great responsibility, with and without the ball, and he is only going to grow in this environment. I think he is a really good player and I am enjoying working with him. He loves Swansea, he loves playing for the football club. He is proud to represent the club – those are his words not mine – and he is giving his all day in and day out.

“It’s a real honour to work with him and the guys every day as they only want to improve and support their team-mates.

“Joe is a fantastic example of that. If he keeps going as he only good things will happen for him with club and country.”

The battle for Rodon's signature is set to intensify.
