Stranger Things creators shut down fan theory about ending

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have shut down a fan theory about the Netflix show's conclusion.

As the popular sci-fi series gears up for its fifth and final season, which is set to begin production early next year, fans are naturally buzzing with speculation about the ultimate outcome.

One theory making the rounds suggests that the events of entire series has not been reality, but rather one big, elaborate game of Dungeons & Dragons invented by the Hawkins kids.

However, the Duffer's were quick to laugh off and debunk this theory while recently speaking to Metro, with Matt initially joking: "That is correct. That is the ending…No."

"That would be the equivalent of 'that’s all a dream'. No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show," Ross added.

"We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see."

Last month, executive producer Shawn Levy revealed that season five will de-age the now adult cast to teens given it's been just over three years since season four began filming.

However, when asked if any AI would be used to make them look younger, he said: "No, I kind of was surprised that one sentence I said around this topic travelled so widely.

"The bottom line is, we know what we're doing on this show. Our cast is brilliant. And these characters that the Duffers have created are so vivid. I'm not worried about everyone suiting back up and bringing them to life."

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are on Netflix.
