A stretch of the East Lancashire Road is closed this morning after a crash.

Emergency services including police, paramedics and fire crews are on the scene. The eastbound stretch of the road - which runs between Salford and Liverpool - is shut between Willow Way (Gillmoss) and Moorgate Road (Knowsley), the Liverpool Echo reports.

Traffic is being turned away from the area. One eyewitness said: "I was driving to work and emergency service vehicles were blocking the Lancs with police, ambulance and a fire engine all on the road.

"Traffic had came to a standstill before being turned around and diverted."

A number of local bus services are also being diverted. It has not yet been confirmed whether anyone has been left seriously injured in the crash.
