Strictly Come Dancing contestant Clara Amfo and her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec appeared on Lorraine this morning (21 Oct) to give fans an update on their partnership.

The stars joined presenter Christine Lampard on the show via video link and talked about their Strictly experience so far.

Aljaz revealed Clara is a very enthusiastic student, who always has a smile on her face.

"She’s always happy. If I could sum her up in one word, it would be ‘happy’," he said.

Clara added that the pair have shared lots of laughs on the show so far, but that Aljaz has a stricter side to him, too.

"Me and Aljaz have just been laughing the whole time," Clara said, "He’s been very strict but he’s allowed a good allocation of laughs".

Strictly kicked off last Saturday (17 Oct) with the launch show, before live shows begin on Saturday 24 October.

Speaking about the launch, Aljaz said: "It was special to film the launch show. We all got a bit emotional when the whole thing was done. It’s really, really nice that the show is going ahead and I think we’re all super excited for this Saturday."

To ensure the show could safely go ahead this year while still following the UK government Covid-19 regulations, the contestant or the professional dancer have had to live alone in order to form an exclusive support bubble with their dance partner.

For Aljaz and his wife Janette, who is also a professional dancer on the show this year, its means the pair have had to live apart for the duration of Strictly.

Speaking to Christine about how he's coping living away from his wife, Aljaz said: "I think it’s a small sacrifice that most of us have to make. Some have kids they’re not going to see for a while.

He joked: "We’ve been together for over 10 years and as she would say, they’re not my words, but 'Sometimes it’s good to not see me for a little while."

As Clara and Aljaz get ready to perform their first dance of the live shows this weekend, the Radio One host revealed the pair are taking on the Cha Cha to Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa.

"I’m doing ok, I’ve got my dance shoes in my backpack right now," Clara said as she spoke to Christine about dealing with the aches and pains of dancing.

"The first three days I was like, 'Oh my goodness, I don’t know if I can do this', but I think I’ve broken through my pain barrier so I’m alright. Janette’s been amazing actually, she’s given me loads of good tips."

We can't wait to see the pair dance this weekend!

Lorraine airs on ITV weekdays from 9am.
