Sturgeon Supermoon Glows in Southern Maine

Soft light bathed parts of southern Maine late on Tuesday, August 1, as a supermoon, dubbed a Sturgeon Moon, glowed in the region.

According to NASA, a supermoon occurs when the moon is full while its orbit is closest to Earth, making it look bigger and brighter than usual.

Another supermoon was forecast on August 30, NASA said.

This footage was filmed by Kathy Woughter, who said she filmed it at Ocean Park in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, on Tuesday night. Credit: Kathy Woughter via Storyful
