Sun Dog Seen in Minnesota, Ahead of Winter Storm

What the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities said would be a “significant winter storm” was expected in Minnesota from Tuesday, February 21.

In calm conditions on February 19, Carol Bauer captured a sun dog on camera in Graceville.

Her video shows the sun shining through a halo in an atmospheric optical phenomenon that typically forms when the sun shines through a thin cirrus cloud of ice crystals.

Bauer told Storyful that the “beautiful sight” was like the calm before the storm. Credit: Carol Bauer via Storyful
