Super-rare McLaren P1 caught on camera in flames

A driver in the UK has caught on camera the heart-breaking moment a unique McLaren P1 hypercar went up in flames – writing off one of the rarest vehicles in the world.

The car, a uniquely specced MSO model painted in blue with red accents, was spotted in Colnbrook, near Slough. By the time the video begins the flames have already engulfed the vehicle, with the fire appearing to originate from the engine compartment.

A trail of liquid is visible on the road behind the car, which may be fuel and could give a clue as to the cause of the fire.

Whatever the reason for the flames, there's no doubt that this million-pound-plus hypercar is completely written off. That must hurt, especially as it's one of just 375 made. Bearing the number plate 'V8 MCL', it's a particularly well-known vehicle to car spotters and carries chassis number 341.

Another "quality" #McLaren product. Hope the driver was ok. #p1 #deathtrap
