A record amount of voters in the US want Congress to impeach President Donald Trump.

According to a Politico poll, some 43% of voters want Congress to begin impeachment proceedings – a five % rise from last week.

However, these voters they don’t necessarily think that Trump has committed the ‘high crimes and misdemeanours’ required for such a process to occur.

Specifically, 54 % of those who want Trump to be impeached believe that he has ‘proven he is unfit to service and should be removed from office, regardless of whether he committed an impeachable offence or not.’

Kyle Dropp, the co-founder of Morning Consult, who co-authored the poll, said: ‘If President Trump was hoping his foreign trip would shift the conversation away from scandals, he may be out of luck.’

Despite these dismal statistics, Trump’s approval ratings are actually stabilising somewhat – with his 45 % support ratings recovering from a low of 41 % that he experienced while overseas last month.

The poll also focused on reactions to Republican policy and showed that more voters continue to disapprove of the GOP health care bill, with 47 percent of voters against the divisive plans to scrap Obamacare.

But one question that didn’t get posed is the one on everyone’s lips at the moment – what exactly is the meaning of covfefe?
