Surveillance Footage Captures Moment BART Worker Rescues Man From Path of Oncoming Train

A Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) employee was praised for his quick-thinking actions after he rescued a man who fell onto tracks as a train approached a station in Oakland, California, on Sunday, November 3.

BART transportation supervisor John O’Connor was overseeing crowds at the Oakland Coliseum station after the Oakland Raiders played the Detroit Lions on Sunday evening when the dramatic rescue unfolded.

In a statement, BART said an intoxicated passenger miss-stepped and fell onto the tracks. “John sprang into action and pulled him to safety,” the statement read, calling the employee a “humble hero.”

Tony Badilla, who was on the platform and saw the rescue, shared footage of the two men embracing afterwards.
