TV presenter and style guru Susannah Constantine has revealed that she was a bit rude to Dame Kristin Scott Thomas when the Oscar winner appeared on her podcast Wardrobe Malfunction.

Speaking on White Wine Question Time, Constantine said that when she turned up to Scott Thomas’ house for the interview, she didn’t look like she expected the normally stylish actor to look.

“We turned up at her house and clearly she'd forgotten that we were coming,” Constantine told podcast host Kate Thornton.

“She looked like s***! So, she opens the door and she went, ‘Oh my god, I forgot’. And I said ‘Clearly! You look like you're wearing clothes that you've dragged out of your dog basket!’”

Thankfully for the TV presenter, Scott Thomas didn’t take offence and admitted on Constantine’s podcast that she didn’t perhaps look her best.

“You caught me short,” she exclaimed.

She continued: “I’m wearing the things I wore to the gym. I’ve got a pair of very grotty tracksuit bottoms and a very snuggly cardigan and a black T-shirt – a freebie from a film!”

Constantine, who is currently on series six of her show, said she was glad she wasn’t insulted as Scott Thomas — along with Margaret Thatcher — is one of her big icons.

“That could have gone one of either way,” she admitted.

“She was amazing. She was so interesting, and so lovely and she has always been a bit of an icon of mine, so I was thrilled to meet her!”

Constantine says that she often contacts her guests via Instagram, like she did with Scott Thomas, and she believes her podcast, where guests talk about clothes and in particular their worst wardrobe malfunctions, make a refreshing change for them.

“It's interesting that the podcast My Wardrobe Malfunction… You take an innocuous subject like clothes, and everyone has so many memories attached to items that they've worn,” she said to Thornton.

“And I think people also are so relieved not to talk about the next book that's coming out or TV series, [and] just to talk about something totally different for a change.”

With partner in (fashion) crime, Trinny Woodhall, Constantine became famous for giving strikingly honest opinions on how not to dress on the BBC's What Not To Wear, however the 58-year-old says she’s not so good at receiving brutal honesty, especially when it comes from her husband, Sten Bertelsen.

“I don't always like to get his opinion,” she admitted.

“I know I'll get the brutal truth more often than not — it won't be what I want to hear. I'm still trying to get my head around that one!”

The couple, who celebrated 26 years together this month, have three children and while they are super happy together, Constantine does get rather annoyed with certain aspects of his personality.

“He is an extraordinary person,” she admitted.

“And he's kind of annoyingly good at everything, which I think is one of the reasons I do my cold-water swimming… He can't even get into a heated swimming pool. It's the one thing he can't do!”
