Updated – April 18, 2019: Mere hours after our first look at Swamp Thing, it's emerged that Warner Bros Television has reduced the number of episodes of the upcoming DC series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, fans will be spending less time in Houma's swamp than planned, after the original 13-episode order was whittled down to just 10 episodes.

Although neither Warner Bros nor DC Universe has commented on the Swamp Thing setback, it's reported that those pesky "creative differences" are to blame for the three-episode cull.

Original story – April 17, 2019: We have our first look at the superhero in DC's Swamp Thing TV series.

Set for release on the DC Universe streaming service from May 31, actor Ian Ziering has provided a short teaser for the show on his Instagram page, and it's sure to give comic book fans goosebumps.

Try draining this Swamp, I dare you.

Ziering's post - captioned "Try draining this Swamp, I dare you" - teases a suitably murky atmosphere for the superhero series, complete with a swampy soundscape crammed full of frogs and nocturnal creepers.

As the camera moves through Swamp Thing's grimy domain, the anti-hero himself emerges from beneath the water in an eruption of bubbles. Staring down the lens, his signature amber eyes are visible – signalling that this adaptation is chasing authenticity for the fans.

Ziering's Instagram followers were loving the new footage, as several posted some excited responses.

"Congrats brother! Can’t wait to watch!" one person wrote, while another simply replied: "Woooooohooooooo!!!"

For anybody who needs reminding, Swamp Thing's official synopsis reads: "When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland - only to have him tragically taken from her.

"But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous - and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

Swamp Thing will be available on the DC Universe streaming service on May 31, although there's still no word yet on a UK release.
