Speeding driver borrows friend's Lamborghini - then smashes into another driver on motorway

Hu Xiao, 32, borrowed the bright orange LP570-4 Lamborghini from friend Song Mai, 36, promising to return it a few hours later

A Top Gear fan who borrowed a friend’s Lamborghini to take it ‘for a spin’ smashed it to pieces after racing along a motorway and crashing into another driver.

Hu Xiao, 32, borrowed the bright orange LP570-4 Lamborghini from friend Song Mai, 36, promising to return it a few hours later.

But instead of going for the promised quiet drive, Hu met up with two racing pals in the city of Taichung, in central Taiwan, where they sped onto a main freeway for a race.

Passing motorist Hsin Chao, 45, said: ‘I was driving home when I saw these two orange Lamborghinis and what looked like a red Porsche overtake.

‘The Lambos were much quicker then the Porsche but they were all going very, very fast and quickly disappeared from sight.

‘But then a few minutes later I saw that one of them had crashed.

‘The whole front of the car was destroyed and I was worried the driver may have been killed so pulled over and phoned the police.

When traffic police arrived they found Hu, who calls himself the ‘Hamster’ after the nickname given to Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, sitting on the side of the road.

A police spokesman said: ‘He had been driving at 80mph at the least when he collided with a vehicle being driven by a 43-year-old woman.

"Miraculously neither were physically injured.’

Hu now faces a fine for reckless driving.

The fuming Lambo owner Mai said: ‘He told me he just wanted to go for a spin and knowing what a huge petrol-head he is and his love of super cars I agreed.

‘I had no idea this would happen.

‘That’s the last time he borrows anything off me again.’
