Ted Lasso is nominated for eight Primetime Emmy awards, including outstanding comedy series.

Speaking with Laverne Cox on E!'s pre-show red carpet, Mohammed's costar Brett Goldstein said there's "a bit of magic" to the series, which viewers have fallen in love with.

"I truly, truly never thought anyone would watch this show,” Goldstein said. “I was like, 'People won't get it, it’s set in England, Americans aren’t gonna like it and no one's gonna watch it.’ ”

Mohammed also spoke highly of the show’s fans in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE after he was nominated for his second supporting actor Emmy in 2022. “The reach of the show has been out of this world really,” he said at the time.

He later added, "I feel very lucky to be a part of a show that's had a positive effect on a lot of people, which has been great."

In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Mohammed said he and his fellow castmates “had an absolute blast” on the show, which returned for a third season in March 2023.

"All I know is that we've got friends for life with that group of actors. We're a close-knit bunch and we'll forever be grateful for the show,” he said at the time.
