Teenage girl fighting for life after being hit by car at pedestrian crossing

A teenager is fighting for her life after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing. The crash took place in Plymouth city centre yesterday morning (Monday, June 11).

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Cobourg Street at around 11.15am following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Officers rushed to the scene and found that a woman, aged 19 and from Launceston, had been hit at a pedestrian crossing near to the James Street junction.

She was rushed to Derriford Hospital where she is being treated for injuries which are considered to be life-threatening. The driver, a man in his 40s from the Plymouth area, was uninjured.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Plymouth city centre."

They added: "Anyone with any relevant information or dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked contact police via our website here or by calling 101 quoting log number 247 of 10 June."
