Teenager dies after taking ecstasy for the first time on night out in Bristol

A teenager has died after taking ecstasy for the first time on a night out clubbing.

Drake Morgan-Baines collapsed after swallowing the party drug, which had a Tesla logo on it.

The 19-year-old from Newport, South Wales, was on a night out clubbing with friends in Bristol.

His mother, Sheleen Morgan, 40, warned that one pill of ecstasy, or MDMA, is enough to kill.

She said: ‘Hospital staff told us it was high-potency MDMA and, because it was the first time he had taken any, it was too powerful for him.

‘He got unlucky as his body couldn’t cope. One pill is enough to be in the same position we are in.

‘We have been left in total devastation.’

Mr Morgan-Baines, an IT analyst, was known to his friends as ‘Drizzy’ and was described as an ‘extremely loving, family man’.

His father, Roy Baines, 40, said his son had a special relationship with his girlfriend, Megan Whitehead, 18.

He said: ‘Drake had a short stay in Earth, but he had a very happy life.

‘He had all the love in the world and had a beautiful girlfriend with whom he had a special relationship.’

The teenager is believed to have taken a ‘Tesla’ ecstasy pill.

He went into cardiac arrest after taking the pill in Motion nightclub in Bristol, and suffered from a brain seizure on November 5.

More than 100 people turned up outside the family home the day after he died to set off fireworks in tribute.

Mrs Morgan said: ‘We knew he was a very special boy – but this confirms that everybody else knew that as well.’

A spokeswoman for the nightclub said: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear of the death and extend our deepest sympathy to his friends and family at this sad time.

‘In the early hours of Sunday morning he was brought to the medic room in Motion where he was treated immediately and an ambulance called. He sadly passed away at Bristol Royal Infirmary a few hours later.’

A fundraising page has been set up to cover the expense of his funeral.
