Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's drivers can cut bill using 'commonly ignored feature'

Drivers have been told they could be given a "huge boost" with a simple fuel saving trick. Google Maps offers drivers multiple destinations in one trip including a fuel-efficient option - and it could help limit Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco motorists' trips to the forecourt.

Graham Conway, an expert from Select Car Leasing, explained: “There is one feature in particular that is commonly ignored which can prove a huge boost for motorists.” Drivers need to enter their destination into the app and choose directions then look for the three small vertical dots in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Road users can then select the options tab and then look for the “prefer fuel-efficient routes” toggle, which you can switch on by moving to the right. The Google website stated: “Google Maps can estimate fuel or energy efficiency for different vehicle types, including electric and combustion engine cars, as well as petrol motorcycles.

“The more fuel or energy efficient the route, the lower your vehicle’s fuel or energy usage and CO2 emissions.” Conway added that with sat nav software being such a “huge part” of driving these days, it’s important to ensure it works for individual needs.

He said: “In Google Maps you can change your vehicle icon and use the app to remember where you parked. It also plots a route to multiple destinations in one trip, which will also take advantage of the fuel-efficiency calculations.”
