Tesco unveils new Clubcard change which could see shoppers awarded £100 in points
Tesco has announced a huge change to its Clubcard scheme which could see shoppers earning big when it comes to how they spend their money instore.
The supermarket's Clubcard Challenges initiative will give three million customers the chance to shop in a certain way and earn extra points for doing so.
Kicking off in May, the scheme consists of 20 personalised 'task' for shoppers to carry out instore. You could earn up to £50 in Clubcard points in this way - but there's also a smart way to double this.
The Mirror reports that as an example, customers will be asked to "spend £20 on our Summer BBQ range over the next six weeks" or "spend £10 on plant-based meals".
Each shopper will be able to pick the 10 tasks that appeal to them most, and they’ll get a maximum of £50 worth of extra Clubcard points if they finish them all.
However, these points can be doubled if you want to spend them with a Tesco reward partner. Some of these include Cineworld, Zizzi, Hotels.com and Thorpe Park.
Clubcard Challenges will kick off on May 20, for a total of six weeks. Tesco is currently working with EagleAI to deliver the personalisations for the new scheme.
Lizzie Reynolds, group membership and loyalty director at Tesco said: “We are constantly looking for ways to make Clubcard work harder for our customers. With Clubcard Prices on around 8,000 products, it is saving customers up to £360 off the annual cost of their groceries."
It comes after Tesco shoppers were recently asked to be wary of a scam email email claiming to offer a £500 gift card.
The email links to a survey website that is in no way affiliated with Tesco, and has been designed to capture sensitive personal and financial information from customers. Consumer experts at Which? flagged the email in its latest scam alerts release.
The fraudulent email reads: “Win a £500 Tesco Gift Card! Shop til you drop with this generous gift card from Tesco, your one-stop destination for groceries, household essentials and more. Enter now for your chance to indulge in a shopping spree!” A Tesco spokesperson said: “This online competition is fake and has nothing to do with Tesco. We are investigating this and urge customers to remain vigilant to these types of scams and phishing emails.”
