Property hunting Londoners on a budget who are keen to include a view of the River Thames should head to Thamesmead.

According to research from estate agents Martin & Co, the area covered by London’s SE28 postcode situated just south of the Thames, has an average property price of £281,851.

Coming in at about £350,000 less than the average property price for London as a whole, the company says this makes it the capital’s cheapest location for a river view.

Thamesmead is home to a large number of 20th century flats and houses that line the river north of Abbey Wood. Facing the area and situated on the river’s north bank is Barking in East London.

At the other end of the scale, Martin & Co found that Westminster and Whitehall’s SW1A postcode is home to the capital’s most expensive riverside properties where the average price stands at just under £3.1 million.

According to the company, which researched 24 locations around the capital: “London property prices tend to rise the closer to central London you are and properties alongside the Thames are no different”.
