The Great British Bake Off will soon be returning to TV screens.

Channel 4 has confirmed that the popular cooking show will begin its 13th season on Tuesday, 13 September at its usual time of 8pm.

Sharing a selfie of hosts and judges Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, the show's official Twitter account wrote: "In knead of some good news? Here’s a little something… The Great British Bake Off is back on your screens on Tuesday 13th September at 8pm! #GBBO."

Last year's competition was won by Giuseppe Dell'Anno who said after winning: "There are no words, I am speechless for once. All I can think of is the reaction from my mum and dad.The fact is that everything I have done to deserve this comes from his heritage, it's the best thank-you note I can possibly send him."

The 13th season was filmed earlier this year which is noteworthy for the UK battling record temperatures. There have been various events in the past where contestants have failed due to the weather impacting the ability to keep deserts cool.

In 2020, a contestant's ice cream cake collapsed after it melted in the summer heat.

Since moving to Channel 4 in 2017, The Great British Bake Off has been a huge ratings success for the broadcaster.

The 11th season, which aired in 2020, became Channel 4's most watched programme in 20 years. The episode that aired on 22 September 2020 was viewed by 11.2 million people.

It was the broadcaster's most watched show since the finale of season two of Big Brother in 2001.

The previous two seasons of The Great British Bake Off were filmed under special conditions due to COVID-19.

The cast and crew had to stay within a bubble on the site of filming and were unable to see their families for six weeks.

The upcoming 13th season will be filmed as the show was in the past with contestants able to travel home when not in production.
