Most of us are guilty of reusing the odd password, or keeping the same one unchanged for a decade or so – but this list of the world’s top passwords is mind-boggling.

A huge number of users are still using wildly insecure passwords, despite years of advice to toughen up security.

Using easy-to-guess passwords basically hands hackers the keys to online accounts – and can lead to identity theft, or worse.

The list from Keeper Security is based on 10 million hacked accounts posted online – and shows that a whopping 17% of accounts still use 123456.

Second-most popular is 123456789.

The researchers from Keeper security analysed 10 million hacked accounts, saying, ‘’The list of most-frequently used passwords has changed little over the past few years.

‘That means that user education has limits [and], while it’s important for users to be aware of risks, a sizable minority are never going to take the time or effort to protect themselves.’
