Theresa May has suffered a record fall in popularity among Conservative Party members

Theresa May has suffered a record fall in popularity among her own party’s members, a poll has revealed.

The Conservative Home website’s cabinet league table revealed that she has gone from being the most liked politician in the party to second bottom.

The Prime Minister has slumped from a satisfactory rating of 89.1 to -26.1 points, according to the survey of Conservative Party members.

Only one cabinet member is less liked – party chairman Patrick McLoughlin.

The survey, carried out in June, revealed that chancellor Philip Hammond is almost equally unpopular among the party faithful.

The poll follows the party’s disastrous general election campaign and their last-ditch confidence and supply deal with the Democratic Unionist Party to help prop up its reeling minority government.

The survey held good news for Brexit secretary David Davis, who has a rating of 78.4 points, and newly installed environment secretary Michael Gove on 57.7.

Foreign secretary Boris Johnson has seen his popularity fall from 47.9 to 38.8 points.

The previous record drop in popularity belonged to Mr Hammond following a U-turn in policy over a planned increase in National Insurance.

Conservative Home’s Paul Goodman wrote: ‘May falls from first and a score of 89.1 into negative territory: -26.1.

‘That’s 137 points shredded in a single go. Party members want her out as leader – though not yet.’

In a separate Conservative Home poll, published on Monday, 15% of party members said they wanted Mrs May to resign as party leader immediately.

But the majority of the 1,213 members polled – 56% – said she should go, but before the next scheduled general election in 2022.
