Many inventors have tried - but a Canadian has finally come up with a gizmo close to the hoverboard that Marty McFly rides in Back to the Future 2.

He did it without fiddling with magnetic fields, either.

Instead, Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandre Duru snagged his Guinnness World Record simply by standing on top of a multi-rotor drone.

The Canadian flew 905 feet and two inches on top of his hoverboard - more than five times the previous record.

Duru says, ‘The prototype can be used anywhere, but is usually tested over water because of how dangerously high it can fly (which is ironic considering that the movie joked that it can't).’
