Three suffer head injuries in alleged Newtownards garden assault by two armed men

A number of men, armed with weapons, entered a garden and assaulted two men and a woman who sustained head injuries in a "terrifying ordeal", it has been alleged.

The incident happened in the Newtownards area on Saturday night.

Police say they are now working to determine "exactly what happened, a motive, and who was involved".

All three of those subjected to the alleged assault required hospital treatment with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following an overnight assault in Newtownards.

Detective Sergeant Westbury said: “Police received a report at approximately 10.25pm on Saturday evening, 11th May of an altercation in the Meadow Close area.

“It was alleged a number of men, who were armed with weapons, entered the garden of a property and assaulted two men and a woman.

“They all sustained head injuries as a result of the attack and required hospital treatment.

“Thankfully, the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. However, this was a terrifying ordeal for those involved."

The detective sergeant continued: “Our investigation is now underway to determine exactly what happened, a motive, and who was involved. I would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist with our investigation or has CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference 1927 11/05/24.

“We are especially keen to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Meadow Close area between 10pm and shortly before 10.20pm to make contact with police.”
