If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you'll know how hard it is to avoid spoilers – when a new episode airs, you have to stay off social media until you can watch it.

But there's one place even worse for spoilers than the internet – the Thrones set itself!

Ian Beattie, who played Ser Meryn Trant (the Kingsguard knight who enjoyed beating young girls and was killed by Arya Stark), revealed one of his co-stars dropped a big spoiler... and he wasn't happy about it.

Speaking at MCM Comic Con Birmingham, the actor said: "The more I fell in love with the show, the less I wanted to read the scripts.

"At the start of season three, I actually phoned the production office and said, 'Don't send me the scripts. Just send me my scenes.' They said, ‘Why?' I said, 'Because I don't want to know what happens! I'm a fan.' All the way through season 4, I told everybody, 'Don't tell me. Don't tell me, I don't want to know.'

"The last day of filming in Belfast, the season's wrapping up, and I'm doing a scene with Nikolai [Coster-Waldau] and Jack [Gleeson], where Joffrey is slagging off his uncle. So we finish that scene, I'm standing outside having a cigarette, and Charles Dance walks up and he’s in a dressing gown. 'Well...' he says, 'the little bastard finally killed me.'"

Ian jokingly said that he told Charles that "I’m glad you're dead!" – but we don't think anyone would be brave enough to say that to his face, dressing gown or no.

Expanding more on his 'superfan' status, the actor says he's seen every episode at least four times, and Battle of the Bastards nine times. He also called his final scene (his death scene) the "worst moment of my professional career".

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on April 14, 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
