Tim Sherwood has been proven wrong over £45m Newcastle United star

Pundit Tim Sherwood admits he got it wrong with his assessment of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon. The England international has been one of the Magpies' standout performers in their topsy-turvy Premier League campaign.

Gordon has chipped in with 11 goals and eight assists in their push for Europe. Expect Gordon to have a big part to play in the run-in as Eddie Howe's team look to finish the season as strongly as possible.

Eyebrows were raised when United signed Gordon from Everton in a deal worth up to £45m a little over a year ago. It was a big statement of intent and Gordon has won over the Magpies faithful with his pace and direct style of play.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss Sherwood stated he thought Gordon was overpriced when he first signed for United but went on to praise the job Howe and his coaching team have done to turn him into one of the most dynamic wide players in the division.

Sherwood said: “He [Gordon] has done very well, when he first went there I thought he was overpriced, but he’s worked with the manager, he’s put him in at the right time and taken him out at the right time. The crowd have taken to him and when the crowd take to you there you feel like a million dollars and he’s relishing the challenge of playing for such a big club."
