Timelapse Captures Northern Lights Dancing in Starry Canadian Sky

The northern lights shimmered in Canada’s starry night sky on Thursday, March 23.

Timelapse footage taken by the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada shows the vibrant green and purple aurora appearing to dance over stars in the night sky.

“Looking straight up at the corona from near Carseland, Alberta. The two bright stars are Castor and Pollux in the constellation of Gemini,” the nonprofit organization tweeted.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch for March 23 to 25, forecasting a G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm for overnight Thursday, and a G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm for Friday night.
