Tipi Summer opens family-friendly outdoor bar in Hull after success in Beverley

A new outdoor bar has opened in Hull and it's offering a relaxing atmosphere and live acoustic music.

Visitors to Hull city centre may have already noticed Tipi Summer has appeared next to the water at Princes Quay. It had a busy first day and bosses plan to open Tuesday to Sunday in the first month, and then seven days a week.

Manager Andy Marshall said Tipi Events has been running the Christmas tipi at Beverley Flemingate for the past three years after taking it on from its previous owners. Following its success, they've branched out to do summer residencies in Hull and Beverley.

Speaking on Saturday, he said: "We've been working really closely with Princes Quay to secure this site. The location is on the dockside outside the entrance to Zebedee's Yard and we've launched today.

"As a company, we are on the family-friendly side. Stock wise, we have a full range of draft beers, cocktails, slush cocktails, and non-alcoholic softs drinks and teas and coffees and milkshakes."

Despite the overcast weather, Andy said there was a good crowd enjoying the bar on its opening day. "At least we've got the cover of the tipis if it does rain as well," he said.

Andy said the cocktails on offer are Zombie, Strawberry and Rhubarb Cosmopolitan, Strawberry Daiquiri, and Hull Rain which is an "unusual parmaviolet-based one". Andy said they'd had great feedback on the cocktails from customers.

The cocktails are made in bulk by The Cocktail Pickers Club which means "everybody is served as quickly as possible", said Andy. This means people can get seated as quickly as possible with their drinks and soak up the ambiance.

"It's really important for us that experience is there because we're not just any other bar, with us being a pop up it's more the experience of coming into the tipi," added Andy. On Sundays, there is a plan to have live acoustic music at 1pm and 4pm to add to the relaxing experience of Tipi Summer.
