Toddla T, Foreign Light review: Plenty of highlights

Like his partner Annie Mac, Thomas “Toddla T” Bell is a DJ and Radio 1 presenter, and his success in those areas means he hasn’t found time to make an album of his own music since 2011.

Foreign Light, his third full-length release, is a varied collection ranging from the Jamaican dub of Foundation to one minute of frenetic grime with a Wiley cameo on Tribute.

It’s given consistency by the appearance of soul singer Andrea Martin on most of the songs. She’s best when coupled with a low, skronking riff on the fantastic Beast, but also appears amid gospel sounds on Faithful and the sunny house of Ungrateful.

There are plenty of highlights for him to play when he’s next manning the decks.
