Tom Rosenthal reportedly smuggled tobacco up his bottom for new show 'Banged Up'.

The 'Friday Night Dinner' and 'Plebs' star is one the celebrity inmates for Channel 4's new prison reality show, and he did what he could to evade detection by officers as the stars underwent a close between the cheeks inspection.

A source told The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column: "Tom went one stage further, which is a bold but uncomfortable move and one which is far more likely to evade detection by officers — though not guaranteed to work, of course.

"Tobacco is something which lags not only have for their personal use but is also a useful thing to trade with fellow prisoners in return for other goods or just favours."

While all the famous inmates were searched on their way into the jail, it's said "a few times" slipped through the cracks.

The insider added: “All the VIP inmates were given a search on their way into the prison but a few items seemed to slip through.

“It’s a big problem that prisons across the country have to face on a daily basis.”

Other stars taking part in the show - which is set to air later this year - include former 'EastEnders' actor Sid Owen, 'Gogglebox' star Marcus Luther, former MP Neil Parish, singer HRVY and columnist Peter Hitchens,

The celebrities will be put behind bars at Shrewsbury Prison - which is decommissioned - alongside real life former prisoners.

As well as the body searches by actual prison officers, the cast were given jobs to do and had to deal with fights breaking out, as well as someone having a poo in the shower.

An insider previously told The Sun newspaper: "The idea behind the show is it gives people who might have zero experience of prison life, or the criminal justice system in general, a taste of just what it is like."
