Bulut surprised by Cardiff stars on arrival

Erol Bulut has revealed his shock at the level of Cardiff players' fitness when he arrived at the club almost exactly a year ago.

Bulut came after managing exclusively in Turkey and he became the first Turkish manager to get a job in the Championship, so he can be forgiven for not knowing wholly want to expect.

However, explaining his first training session, it's fair to say the Bluebirds players impressed with their first impression.

Speaking to SportBox, Bulut said: "I was surprised when I arrived and we had our first practice session. I asked the conditioning (coach), 'Did you give the players a programme?'

"'Of course, yes coach,' he said. 'I said, 'Let's be at a good level.' We started the first training session, we played a double goal match towards the end, man, they don't stop! They resemble a machine you set up and activate. Players constantly sprinting. I said, 'This team is ready! We don't need to do too much loading on this team!'"

Legend retires as tributes flood in

Cardiff City Women captain, Siobhan Walsh, has announced her immediate retirement from football following huge success with the club.

Joining the club in 2011, the defender, 29, played a crucial role in the development of the Women's programme and was instrumental in securing three title victories in 2013, 2023 and 2024.

Last season, Walsh led the Bluebirds to their first-ever domestic treble; lifting the Bute Energy Welsh Cup in her last act in a City shirt.

Reflecting on her tenure at the club, she said: "I signed for Cardiff City when I was 17 years old, so it's been a very long time. I've grown as a person through the club. When I was asked to be captain, I was still quite young, I was only turning 21, so it was a bit of a daunting thing for me. I didn't know if I could do it at the time, but I've definitely grown into the role and got better throughout the years. It's been a massive honour to be captain of this club.

"When I first started, we would only have a couple of fans in the stands and our families and now, we have thousands in the stadium watching us. It's grown massively. I think that goes down to the support from the club themselves investing in the team and I can only see it growing more and more." Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Head coach Iain Darbyshire added: "Siobhan has been a massive part of Cardiff City Women ever since she joined the club. She has been a fantastic leader and a great servant for us. We have enjoyed great success, particularly in the last three seasons, and Siobhan has been a key part of that. We wish her all the best in her retirement from football and thank her for her brilliant service to the football club."

Team-mate Eliza Collie said: "She's the best player I've ever played with. She's more than a captain to us, she's an amazing person and she'd do anything for us on and off the pitch. Shiv has played a massive part in my development at the club and I can't thank her enough for what she has done for me and all the girls."

Lisa Owen added: “Siobhan is the definition of a captain, she’s a born leader and an absolute legend. Nobody will ever compare. She’s been an absolute rock at the back and someone you could always count on. My time at Cardiff City wouldn’t have been the same without her and she will truly be missed both on and off the field.”

McNaughton in homage to Campbell

Cardiff legend Kevin McNaughton is just one of the former players to have paid tribute to Kevin Campbell, who tragically passed away over the weekend at the age of 54.

Campbell will be best known for his time at Arsenal and Everton, however he finished his career with Cardiff, where he played alongside McNaughton.

Campbell, played 20 times for Cardiff in 2006/07 season and ended his career in south Wales upon the completion of that campaign.

Writing on X, McNaughton said: "Rest in peace Kev Campbell a top bloke on and off the pitch, everyone who knew you is saddened by your passing. My deepest sympathy to Kev's family and friends at this tough time. God bless bud x."

Old target set for Spanish top flight

Former Bluebirds target Chidera Ejuke is about to sign for Sevilla, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Cardiff were one of the many teams in the running to sign him last summer, however the winger spent the season on loan in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.

He is set to leave his parent club, CSKA Moscow, on a free this summer, having been granted loan moves away from Russia in the last two seasons owing to the war with Ukraine.

Cardiff were hopeful of trying to seal a loan deal themselves a year ago, but the 26-year-old Nigeria international opted for Belgium. Now, it appears his future lies in La Liga.

Cardiff confirm they will take part in Welsh cup

Cardiff have confirmed they will partake in the Nathaniel MG Cup again after the success of last season.

Darren Purse managed a side that allowed City's youngsters to play against men in the Welsh cup competition, with the likes of future first teamer Cian Ashford impressing in the early rounds.

Ashford scored all 4-0 goals in a resounding win over Haverfordwest County, but were defeated by rivals Swansea City in round three. Swansea, Newport County, Merthyr Town and the Bluebirds are the four wildcard entries into the cup.
