Seven sides show Lowe interest

Jamal Lowe is attracting interest from a host of clubs.

The striker, who joined Swansea City on a season-long loan deal last summer, is out of contract at parent club Bournemouth at the end of the current campaign.

The 29-year-old has made 34 appearances for the Swans this term, returning nine goals, his latest in the 4-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town.

Now, reports state Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town and promoted sides Portsmouth and Derby County have shown interest in taking him next season, while Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Watford are all supposedly keeping tabs.

Earlier on this month Swans head coach Luke Williams said keeping hold of Lowe for next season would prove tricky - mainly due to his wages.

“I think it’s going to be difficult because Jamal is on a Premier League salary,” said Williams.

“That could be a real issue. Jamal’s contract in his first spell here was probably when the club were still working almost on a Premier League budget. Then he went on [to Bournemouth] still on a Premier League level.

“But this club is no longer operating at that level. I think we have to be clear about what it’s going to look like if we are going to do anything at all.”

Patino to leave Arsenal?

Charlie Patino's loan move to Swansea hasn't quite worked out as well as he, Arsenal and the Swans would have hoped.

The 20-year-old has frequently found himself on the bench in recent weeks and with just one game left of the current campaign, he is set to return to north London with probably more questions than answers.

But it appears he won't be hanging around the Emirates for long, with the midfielder reportedly keen to leave the Gunners for good this summer.

Italian outlet Calciomercato report European heavyweights Juventus and Roma are preparing to go head-to-head for the youngster.

Arsenal expert Charles Watts told CaughtOffside that Patino leaving the title hopefuls now seems inevitable. “I think Charlie Patino will leave for good this summer. It was very close to happening last summer. That was the plan at the start of the window, but as the window went on it was decided that he would be sent out on loan again,” Watts said.

“Talks are planned for the end of the season, but I would be very surprised if Patino is still an Arsenal player when the summer window closes this time around. He will still have one year left on his deal and as far as I’m aware, a new one won’t be signed. So it just feels inevitable that he will leave on a permanent basis."

He added: “He’s had a couple of years of Championship football since then with Blackpool and Swansea and things haven’t always gone smoothly for him on those loans, but they would have been great learning experiences for him and he’s clocked up a lot of playing time at a high standard. So the time feels right this summer for him to move on and really try and kickstart his career.”

Wright hails youngsters

Anthony Wright says his youngsters got what their efforts deserved in their late win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Substitute Maliq Cadogan scored late on against the Owls to give the age-grade side a 1-0 win over their opponents. The feat was even more impressive given they played the majority of the match with 10 men, following Filip Lissah dismissal in the 17th minute for a foul on Bruno Fernandes.

The victory keeps the Swans in the play-off hunt and Wright feels it's just reward.

"I'm so pleased for the players. We went down to 10 men early on in the game, and it was always going to be difficult from that moment on," said Wright.

"We're so proud of the effort put in by the players and they got their rewards that they deserved throughout the 95 minutes of the game. I thought Harlan [Perry] was excellent, and giving those debuts and opportunities is what we're about as a football club.

"We asked some players to play out of position, we had first-year scholars and we were against a team who are fighting for the top two, like us. I thought the young players were terrific, and we're never been scared to give players opportunities, because we know their level.

"We have one game left, and we want to finish the season on a high. Depending on the other teams' results, we have every chance of making the play-offs."
