Netflix has finally confirmed the fate of popular series Top Boy, after its third season ended on a huge cliffhanger – and it's more good news.

Netflix officially confirmed that another season is a go, writing on Twitter on Wednesday (February 26): "Confirmed: Top Boy s2 is happening!! What we can tell you: – production starts this spring– Dushane, Sully, Jamie and Shelley will return (!)."

The drama originally aired on Channel 4 for two seasons between 2011 and 2013. However, in 2014, the channel announced it would not return for a third season.

But then, in 2017, Top Boy was revived by Netflix after rapper Drake expressed his love for the show after watching the first two seasons.

Last month, GRM Daily revealed on their Instagram page that Top Boy was one of Netflix's most popular series releases of 2019 and captioned the post: "Will we see a new series in 2020?"

The question was answered by Drake himself who commented: "Of course."

Speaking about the success of the third season, showrunner Ronan Bennett told Metro last November: "Sometimes you write something for screen and it just doesn't come out as well as you'd hoped even though all the individual parts are good, but somehow when they're all together they just don't gel.

"This is different. I think the new season is brilliant, I really do. We don't want to sit on our laurels."

Top Boy stars Ashley Walters as Dushane, Kane 'Kano' Robinson as Sully and Micheal Ward as Jamie.

Top Boy is available to stream on Netflix.
