Trains stopped and helicopter deployed after 'person spotted on tracks'

Trains were stopped after a 'person was spotted on the line' in Warrington last night.

British Transport Police were alerted at around 10pm to reports of a 'person trespassing on the line' near Warrington Central station. The police helicopter was deployed over the area.

Trains were stopped as a search was carried out on the tracks. Cheshire Police officers also joined the search, who were then able to locate the person.

In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Warrington Central station shortly before 10pm last night (Wednesday 24 April) following reports of a person trespassing on the line.

"Officers attended, alongside Cheshire Police and a helicopter from National Police Air Service, and trains were stopped while officers carried out a search of the tracks. The person was located by Cheshire Police on non BTP jurisdiction."
